A consent decree was settled in a sexual discrimination and harassment lawsuit filed by EEOC at Chicago. Edmond Chang the District Judge settled the case where Promens USA Inc. agreed to pay $225,000 to 4 women who worked at former Bonar Plastics rotational molding plant in West Chicago. This company was acquired by Promens in 2005 and sold in 2010 to private equity firm Olympus Partners. The women had filed charges with EEOC in 2007 who sued Promens on their behalf.
The Right to be Free from Harassment
There can be many types of harassment at work such as in the form of sexual, religious, racial, and so on – all of which is intolerable. The situation is aggravated if the perpetrator of the crime is the boss. What the victim is entitled to according to sexual harassment lawyers is monetary compensation from a court of law as the 4 women from Chicago achieved.
The allegation was that a Promens supervisor was in the habit of propositioning temporary female workers. When the women rejected the supervisor’s advances he nonchalantly fired them. This was announced in a news release by the EEOC. Sexual harassment lawyers term this pattern of harassment as quid pro quo. This man is a real piece of work. He should be the one who was fired and now it looks like he was. He has probably hurt his job prospects in the future as well.
The Truth has Been Revealed
When the problem persisted and another victim lodged a complaint in July 2010, Promens USA fired the supervisor. The sexual harassment lawyers and the regional attorney in Chicago John Hendrickson are happy at the positive outcome of this case which is very encouraging for all working women especially the ones in manufacturing.
